Episode 3: Peace Ike

Dec 17, 2025 | Podcast

In this episode of ARA Unscripted, host Vince sits down with culture consultant Peace Ike to explore how leaders can build healthier, more emotionally intelligent workplaces by learning to navigate conflict, polarization, and generational differences with courage and grace. Peace shares the story of moving into a divided neighborhood in Germantown, Philadelphia after the 2016 election and launching “dinner and discussion” nights—social experiments where ten strangers of different races, religions, and backgrounds gathered around her table to share a meal and anonymously pose hard questions on politics, race, and culture.

Those evenings, which ran for seven years without a single fight, eventually evolved into Set the Table and “The Better Method,” a six-part relational framework (Be real, Embrace discomfort, Test your thoughts, Track your tendencies, Extend grace, Recognize risk) that helps leaders and teams improve authenticity, self-awareness, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution. Peace and Vince unpack concepts like psychological safety versus “safe spaces,” why our brains shift into fight-or-flight when core beliefs are challenged, how to recognize when employees are shutting down, and practical ways to lower defensiveness by asking good questions, assuming good faith, and creating “brave spaces” instead of avoiding hard conversations.

The discussion also addresses real-world workplace issues: quiet quitting, employee dissatisfaction, lack of feedback loops, intergenerational tension, and the limits of “forced fun” or prescriptive DEI programs that can increase resentment instead of trust. Peace explains how emotionally intelligent cultures are built through ongoing coaching, clear conflict agreements, and structures that let employees safely share concerns and motivations, whether in secular corporations, ministries, or blue‑collar environments like automotive recycling yards.

On a personal level, Peace talks about her journey from physical therapist to community host, podcaster, worship leader, and consultant; how faith shapes her work without turning it into a sermon; and why she believes strong “people skills” and curiosity are core to influence, impact, and long-term relational health. Vince connects her insights back to the realities his audience faces—messy relationships, polarized teams, and the need for practical tools to help people fight well, stay connected, and move from conflict to connection at work and at home.

Watch the full conversation below to learn what makes employees shut down, what helps them open up, and how The Better Method can strengthen trust, collaboration, and culture in any organization.
