Now, More Than Ever, There's No Excuse Not to Participate in ARA's Certified Automotive Recycler (C.A.R.) Program.

CAR Program V3

NEW! The CAR program is now partnered with the United States Environmental Protection Agency's (US EPA) National Program for Environmental Priorities (NPEP).  The CAR program has been recognized for its recently adopted standard on mercury switch removal, as all CAR members are required to participate in the National Vehicle Mercury Switch Recovery Program (NCMSRP) or the equivalent Sate program.  This is an ongoing effort to protect the environment from the hazardous material often placed by automobile manufacturers in convenience light switches in vehicles.  Also, in an effort to reduce the risk of accidental injury due to the use of cutting torches in an automotive recycling facility, the CAR program will require each of its certified facilities to institute a Safety Torch Protocol.

Dues and Fees have been drastically reduced. CAR members will be charged a $100 annual renewal fee. New CAR member applications, which are not part of a State accredited program, will be charged a $200 first time sign up fee. State accredited programs will continue to pay $50 per member.  APPLY NOW!

CAR Manual (5 MB, Adobe Acrobat) updated 3/3/09

The CAR Manual is a valuable resource outlining each standard of the CAR Program, providing information on how to apply to the CAR Program and how to maintain CAR Certification. Download it here and learn all about the Certified Automotive Recyclers program and program requirements.

Audits

Audits will be performed annually.  The CAR program has now approved an every other year self-audit, with the first audit to be performed by a licensed environmental professional of each facility's choosing.  Upon successful completion of the professional audit, the facility will then be authorized to perform a self audit the following year. If you have a local environmental professional who you currently work with, you will have the option of using them for your CAR audit.

2010 CAR Self-Audit

Established in 1994, the CAR program was created to produce a set of standards for general business practices as well as environmental and safety issues and to provide guidance for member facilities in adhering to these standards. This program is one of the cornerstones of our association as the facilities participating strive to put forward quality service and parts for the professional automotive recycling industry.

Don't let the time and effort you have put into your business go unnoticed. Show everyone in the industry that your business is way out in front of the crowd! For additional questions regarding the CAR Program, please contact ARA.
