Overview

ARA's Department of Government Affairs represents the interests of professional automotive recyclers on Capitol Hill, in federal agencies, state legislatures and regulatory divisions, and internationally. Efforts are continuously undertaken to educate policymakers on the impact that laws and regulations have on the ability of automotive recyclers to compete in the marketplace and to protect the environment.

The Government Affairs Department partners with like-minded entities and seeks input from territories, provinces, and state automotive recycling communities to ensure fair market practices and effective pollution prevention standards at all levels of policy and practice.  Staff works to keep ARA members informed of relevant international, federal, state and regulatory activity through an active grassroots network, annual Capitol Hill program, weekly newsletter and monthly Capitol Report. 

The Government Affairs Department administers the ARA Defense Fund and ARA PAC, as well as staffs the ARA Committees on Government Affairs, Safety and Technical Advisory Issues.  Staff also works very closely with the Regional Directors and the state affiliate chapters. 

The ARA Government Affairs Committee, chaired by Past-President Norman Wright, works with government affairs staff to support ARA's policy and political goals.
