CAR Program in Brief
Here's how the new system will work for CAR member facilities:
In an even-numbered self-audit year the facility contact can opt to access the new application and guidance manual on ARA's website or receive the documents via email. The contact should save the new application form to the facility's computing platform. It is hoped that a facility representative will treat this form as a living document - opening it frequently to assign points to standards and to insert the required photos/documents.
In an odd-numbered professional third-party audit year the auditor completes the audit and the facility contact submits the completed form to ARA.
By October 1 of every year, the facility contact or auditor will complete the audit form, attesting that the facility meets at least 70% of the CAR Program standards, and submits it to ARA.
Included in the application will be an invoice for the CAR facility's $100 annual renewal fee. You will be able to either submit your payment with the application or ARA will send you a separate invoice.
Look here in the coming months for training opportunities on the new application system and for other program-related news, including links to related ARAU courses and environmental issue pages on ARA's ECAR center. ARA and it CAR Committee look forward to working with you to making the CAR Program state of the art, electronic, interactive, user-friendly and value-oriented.
CAR members will be charged a $100 annual renewal fee. New CAR member applications, which are NOT part of a State accredited program, will be charged a $200 first-time sign-up fee. State accredited programs will continue to pay $50 per member.
Audits will be performed annually. In odd-numbered years audits must be performed by a licensed environmental professional of each facility's choosing. If you have a local environmental professional who you currently work with, you will have the option of using the professional for your CAR audit if that professional is included on the ARA-approved auditor list.
Established in 1994, the CAR program was created to produce a set of standards for general business practices as well as environmental and safety issues and to provide guidance for member facilities in adhering to these standards. This program is one of the cornerstones of our association as the facilities participating strive to put forward quality service and parts for the professional automotive recycling industry.
