ARA and OATRA Decry the Cynical Attempts by the Insurance Industry to Diminish the Role of Ohio Automotive Recyclers

Family-Owned Recycling Businesses Providing Thousands of Jobs are Under Direct Attack by Proponents of a Misguided Ohio Bill That Would Open Up Salvage Pools and Auctions

The Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) and the Ohio Auto and Truck Recyclers Association (OATRA) today decried the cynical attempts by lobbyists for the insurance industry to diminish the vital role played by local Ohio automotive recycling companies. The two organizations, on behalf of the 794 licensed automotive recyclers in Ohio and the thousands of men and women they employ, are outraged at the brazen attacks that occurred yesterday upon small businesses that help make up the backbone of today’s economy in Ohio, which has been hard hit by the economic downturn in America.

The Automotive Recyclers Association Applauds Recent State Efforts to Prevent Untrained and Unlicensed Individuals From Purchasing Cars at Salvage Pools and Urges Ohio to Follow Suit

Manassas, VA. - The Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) recognizes the efforts of legislators in Florida and Utah who have made significant steps to protect consumers and the environment by preventing untrained and unlicensed individuals from buying cars at salvage pools and urges Ohio legislators to do the same.  

ARA is the leading international trade association of professional automotive recyclers.  ARA represents  4,500 automotive recycling facilities in the United States and fourteen other countries around the world.  We  proudly represent an industry dedicated to the environmentally efficient removal and reuse of automotive parts and the recycling of inoperable motor vehicles. 
 

Failure to report to NMVTIS is punishable by a civil penalty of $1,000 per violation. Therefore, a failure to report 100 junk or salvage automobiles could result in a civil fine of up to $100,000.
 

Automotive Recyclers Association Urges Collision Repair Stakeholders to Recognize the Genuine Value, Safety and Benefits of All Repair Part Options

The Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) today announced that its Board of Directors has approved a statement calling on all stakeholders involved in the collision repair marketplace to recognize the genuine value, safety and benefits that each repair part option (recycled, new, aftermarket, remanufactured) may provide in a given repair. To help address unfair market disincentives for the sale of some types of parts versus others in the $53.4 billion parts segment of the collision repair industry, ARA encourages adoption of an unbiased compensation structure to remedy the current system that provides the largest financial rewards to collision repair shops only when they utilize the most expensive replacement part option in repairs.

FIRST® Robotics Competition

The Automotive Recyclers Association Educational Foundation (ARAEF) needs your help! On the behalf of ARA Members, we have partnered with the FIRST® Robotics Competition to provide small motor parts to their competition teams.

As a part of this partnership, ARAEF is asking that ARA members who are contacted by FIRST® teams in their area to donate four to six small motors to the team build their project.

This opportunity provides the Automotive Recycling community a chance to promote the industry to the next generation on engineers, and gain national attention in the process for the industry. This effort goes in hand with ARA’s increased efforts to educate the public about automotive recycling and green recycled parts.

This is a win-win for ARA and FIRST® in that ARA Members can directly impact the teams to enlighten them about automotive recycling, and the FIRST® has a reliable donation source for their program.

ARA Warns Collision Repair Industry on Proscriptive Automaker Repair Policies

Manassas, VA – The Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) urges the collision repair industry to ensure that any official, industry-sanctioned "repair standards" for collision repair include all recognized procedures - not just those of the original equipment manufacturers. Standards promoted by other organizations such as the Inter Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair (I-CAR) also need to be recognized. Given that there is no such thing as a "standard" accident, the ARA believes collision repairers must be allowed to use their professional training and judgement to make repair decisions based on the individual circumstances surrounding the damaged vehicles rather than be forced to adopt a single solution and approach.
